IDEX 2019: Al Jasoor Heavy Vehicle ARMA 8x8 armored for UAE Army

RPK-16 Kalashnikov light machine gun ready for test operations

Experts of the Moscow Higher Combined-Arms Command School have begun test operations of the Kalashnikov RPK-16 light machine gun, the Russian Defense Ministry said. "The servicemen will undergo firearms and tactical training to assess the technical state and precision characteristics as well as convenience in operation and servicing of these weapons," it said. Upon completion of the test operations, the experts will submit recommendations to the manufacturing plant, which will put the finishing touches on the light machinegun.

The Russian Navy will receive new guided missile corvettes

On February 27, the Project 22800 (NATO reporting name: Karakurt-class) ‘Tucha’ (Cloud) guided missile corvette was laid down at the Zelenodolsk Shipyard named after M Gorky (a subsidiary of Ak Bars). During the official ceremony, the head of the Navy`s shipbuilding department Rear Admiral Vladimir Tryapichnikov said the service would get no fewer than 18 Project 22800 corvettes with a possible option for several more ships of the type. "These surface combatants will be constructed at the shipyards that are located in the Far East, the Republic of Tatarstan, and the Northwestern Region," said Tryapichnikov, adding that the Navy had already begun training crews for the Project 22800 guided missile corvettes at the service`s Joint Training Center. Russia, Saudi Arabia negotiate S-400 supplies

Russia and Saudi Arabia are holding additional consultations on a contract to supply Russia’s S-400 Triumf missile systems, CEO of Russia’s state arms exporter Rosoboronexport Alexander Mikheyev said at IDEX-2019 international defense exhibition in Abu Dhabi. "As for S-400, we are holding additional consultations on this project, now this contract [with Saudi Arabia - TASS] is being considered," Mikheyev said. Earlier reports said the two countries had agreed on the supplies of the S-400 air defense missile systems.

Successful flight trials in Nigeria for Schiebel Camcopter S-100

US Army FY20 budget proposal realigns $30 billion

The U.S. Army is slated to release its fiscal year 2020 budget request on March 12, which will include the realignment of nearly $30 billion over the next five years to improve readiness and better support the Army's six modernization priorities, Devon L. Suits, Army News Service, reports.

Thales Group awarded contract for the Belgian-Dutch anti-air frigates

The Netherlands Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO) and Thales are developing the Above Water Warfare System (AWWS) for the Royal Netherlands Navy, the first implementation of which will take place on the next generation of its multi-purpose frigates. The M-frigates will be replaced in cooperation with the Belgian Navy. AWWS will protect the Navy against evolving future threats. IDEX 2019: NORINCO displayed Red Arrow 10 antitank guided missiles on VN1 8x8 APC

As the Chinese manufacturer already did at IQDEX 2018 in Baghdad, NORINCO displayed its Red Arrow 10 antitank guided missiles (ATGM), also referred to as HJ-10, in their canisters on a VN1 8x8 APC. Unlike the HJ-10A ATGM system unveiled by the Chinese manufacturer during the Zhuhai Air Show in 2016, the HJ-10A ATGM system exhibited uses the export version on a VN-1 8x8 chassis (export version of Chinese  ).

India test-fires Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile (QRSAM)

India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully test-fired its indigenously-developed Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile (QRSAM), DefPost reports. The missile was test-fired from a rotatable truck-based launch unit positioned at the Chandipur test range in Odisha’s Balasore district.

Russia: Airborne Forces to get helicopter brigade

The Russian Airborne Forces will for the first time create an army aviation brigade. It will be formed in the coming two-three years. At present only the Aerospace Forces have army aviation brigades, but their engagement is subordinated to the military districts. The new airborne helicopter brigade will have four squadrons and one of them will be armed with Mi-35M gunships, the Izvestia daily writes.

IDEX 2019: Thales Australia announced Hawkei NGPV in production for Australian army

While displaying its Hawkei NGPV (New-Generation Protected Vehicle), Thales Australia confirmed the vehicle is now in production for the Australian army, 70 units having already been delivered. The full-rate production will start by the end of 2019, a few months late on initial schedule. 1,100 units (plus 1,000 associated trailers) are to be delivered to the Australian army by 2021.

Greek special forces to potentially include US special operators

Could American special operators be integrated into the Greek Special Operations Forces (SOF), Stavros Atlamazoglou wonders on TheNewsRep? According to reports in the Greek media, the European Special Operations Command (SOCEUR) and the U.S. embassy in Greece have proposed the idea to the Hellenic Ministry of Defense. The initiative would attach U.S. SOF officers and non-commissioned officers to various Greek SOF units.

Serbia received four MiG-29 fighter jets from Belarus

The Serbian Air Force has received four surplus Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-29 (Fulcrum) multirole combat aircraft from Belarus, according to the press department of the Belarusian Ministry of Defense (MoD).

New Sprut-N1 precision navigation system created for the Russian Navy

According to TASS, Sprut-N1 new-generation precision navigation radio system (RNS) has been created for the Russian Navy. It will determine geographic location, speed and altitude with a precision superior to that of GLONASS and GPS. The coordinates are determined by ground stations of the system which transmit coded signals to warships and aircraft. IDEX 2019: SH-01 drone by PSDSARC

Prince Sultan Defense Studies and Research Center (PSDSARC) from Saudi Arabia was present at IDEX 2019 to present its  Shaheen SH-01, a vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) Unmanned Aerial System (UAS), designed for surveillance, reconnaissance and transport applications. The system is able to takeoff as well from land as ships.

IDEX 2019: Rheinmetall unveiled multi-channel jammer, counter-UAV system

Rheinmetall has joined the more and more numerous manufacturers of counter-UAV systems. Depending on the operating frequencies used by the incoming threats, the jammer (either stationary or mobile) can be configured to all frequencies up to 8 Gz by software programming.

Italian Navy tested Leonardo-made M-40 target drone during exercise

On February 17, Leonardo announced that its new M-40 target drone flew its first live missions for the Italian Navy in a recent training exercise at an Italian joint armed forces test range. The exercise saw the aircraft carrier Cavour and its complement of AV8B+ fighter aircraft training alongside the Navy destroyer Mimbelli against M-40 drones which were simulating a range of incoming threats. China working on Mach 6 superguns with magnetized plasma for its artillery

The Chinese army is preparing to test magnetized plasma artillery capable of firing hypervelocity rounds at speeds in excess of Mach 6, six times the speed of sound, Chinese media reports. The power and range of such a weapon would likely offer tremendous advantages on the battlefield, assuming it actually works, which is apparently what the Chinese military is interested in finding out, as Ryan Pickrell comments on MySanAntonio.
